- Stephanie Plum - AKA "The Bounty Hunter from Hell". Stephanie may not be the smoothest, but she's like a pit bull when she's on the case. She's been known to beat up little people, hardly ever shoots anyone.
- Connie Rosolli - Office manager at Vincent Plum Bail Bonding Company. She's got high hair, big boobs, and plenty of attitude. She takes grief from no one.
- Madame Zaretsky - A local "pro" who panders some rather exotic services. One of Vinnie's favorites.
- Vincent Plum - Stephanie's employer and cousin. A boil on the backside of the family tree.
- Randy Briggs - A little person with a big attitude problem. Recently FTA on a carrying concealed charge.
- Ranger - Stephanie's bounty hunter mentor. He's Cuban American, ex-military, a world-class tracker, and an all-around badass.
- Lula - Former 'ho who now does filing for Vinnie. She's a big lady with a tight fitting wardrobe. She sometimes plays side kick with Stephanie on takedowns.
- Grandma Mazur - Stephanie's sprightly grandmother. She like bingo, big guns, and male exotic dancers.
- Betty Szajack - One of Grandma Mazur's friends.
- Emma Getz - One of Grandma Mazur's friends.
- Helen Plum - Stephanie's mother. She's the model burg housewife. With a daughter like Stephanie, she has to do a lot of ironing to maintain her sanity.
- Frank Plum - Stephanie's father. He's big on America, Buick, and automatic transmissions. He's not so big on Grandma Mazur and long conversations.
- Fred Shutz - Stephanie's uncle. He's married to Grandma Mazur's cousin Mabel. Known as a cheapskate of epic proportions. He's recently gone missing.
- Eddie Such - The local butcher.
- Aunt Mabel - Grandma Mazur's cousin, married to Uncle Fred. She's a softer, rounder version of Grandma Mazur.
- Ronald and Walter Shutz - Uncle Fred's two sons. They have looked all over town for Fred, but weren't able to turn up anything.
- Eddie Gazarra - Trenton cop who is a childhood friend of Stephanie Plum. He's married to Stephanie's cousin Shirley the Whiner
- Shirley the Whiner - Stephanie's cousin. Married to Eddie Gazarra.
- Joe Morelli - A plainclothes cop with skills not covered in the policeman's handbook. He and Stephanie have something going, but its hard to say what.
- Loretta Walenowsky - One of Uncle Fred's former "honeys".
- Charlotte Nagy - Friend of Stephanie Plum. Stephanie was a bridesmaid at her wedding.
- Katherine - A black cat that Stephanie had as a kid. She just turned up missing one day, kind of like Uncle Fred.
- Lester Santos - One of Ranger's "interior decorators".
- Bobby Brown - One of Ranger's "interior decorators".
- Tank - One of Ranger's "interior decorators".
- Mrs. Bestler - 83 year old lady who lives on the third floor of Stephanie Plum's building. Sometimes, she likes to play elevator operator.
- Mary Lou - Stephanie Plum's best friend. She has a husband and a few kids now, but she still likes to get into trouble with Stephanie on occasion.
- Harriet Schnable - Lady who frequents the same beauty parlor that Grandma Mazur goes to.
- Winnie Black - One of Fred's "honeys". he met her at a senior meeting.
- Axel Black - Winnie Black's husband.
- Ida Lukach - The senior club's membership chairman.
- Jean - Uncle Fred's daughter-in-law. She's married to his son, Walter.
- Arnie - One of Joe Morelli's cop friends.
- Anthony Pino - Owner of Pino's, a burg watering hole. Some say they have the best pizza in Trenton.
- Benito Ramirez - Professional heavyweight boxer from Trenton. He's a real sicko who's just been released from prison. Something tells Stephanie that he will be paying her a visit.
- Bunchy - A shady character who turns up in Stephanie's life shortly after Fred goes missing. He tells her he's a bookie, but its pretty clear that he isn't.
- Edna Gluck - A burg gossip.
- Richie Gluck - Edna Gluck's son.
- Leona Freeman - Stephanie Plum's second cousin on her mother's side. She's a teller at First Trenton Bank.
- Allen Shempsky - Vice President at First Trenton Bank.

- Larry Lipinski - Bookkeeper at RGC waste haulers.
- Rose Molinowski - Burg lady who has a great bean casserole recipe.
- Eddie - Ranger's mechanic guy. He works out of an unmarked garage at Third and Marshall. Looks a lot like Antonio Banderas.
- Ahmed Fahed - A young sheik flying into Trenton to visit family. Ranger assigns Stephanie to chauffeur him.

- Joyce Barnhardt - Stephanie Plum's arch-enemy. She was a horrible kid and now she's a full blown mutant human being.
- Carl Costanza - Trenton cop who always seems to find Stephanie at her worst moments. He has developed a real appreciation for the havoc that she can cause.
- "Big Dog" - Trenton cop who is Carl's partner. Everyone just calls him Big Dog.

- Joey Stankowski - Lavern's son. He works the EMS truck, so he gets a lot of the juicy news.
- Constantine Stiva - The burg's premier undertaker.
- Rita Gunt - Lady who was noted for some unusual work done on her by Stiva after she passed away.
- Mary Jo Klick - Friend of Grandma Mazur who tried hormone treatments when she started "the change".
- Mrs. Balog - Recently deceased lady who occupies slumber room three at Stiva's.
- Stanley Krienski - Recently deceased man who occupies slumber room two at Stiva's.
- Myra Smulinski - Regular attendee of viewings at Stiva's.
- Harriet Farver - Regular attendee of viewings at Stiva's.
- Terry Gilman - Member of the Grizolli clan. She works for Vito Grizolli, a major figure in Trenton's underworld. She used to date Joe Morelli in high school.
- Vito Grizolli - Family man who runs a dry cleaning business that launders a lot more than clothing. He is rumored to be moving up the corporate ladder of Trenton's underworld.
- Alphonse Ruzick - High-bond FTA that Ranger is tracking.
- Sandy Polan - High school acquaintance of Stephanie's who lives on the same block as Alphose Ruzick.
- Mrs. Karwatt - Tenant of Stephanie Plum's building.
- Irene Tully - Old lady who was the last person to see Uncle Fred before he disapeared.
- Uncle Manny - Morelli's uncle. He's a "construction expediter", which means that you pay him if you don't want any mysterious fires at your construction site.
- Uncle Dominic - Morelli's uncle from New York state.
- Aunt Rosa - One of Morelli's aunts.
- Aunt Loretta - Another one of Morelli's aunts.
- Myra - One of Morelli's relatives that attends his cousin Julie's wedding.
- Grandma Bella - Morelli's feared and revered grandmother. Some people believe that she has special powers, others believe that she's just wacko.
- Ray Barkolowski - Guy who got "they eye" from Grandma Bella, and all of his teeth fell out.
- Louis - Joe's cousin. He fools around on his wife, according to Grandma Bella.
- Frankie Russo - A member of the Morelli clan. He goes a bit berserk at Julie's wedding.
- Mosel - Stiva's competition in the funeral business. Grandma Mazur criticizes him because he "don't know nothin' about makeup."
- Jean Moon - Burg resident whose cousin Dorothy died recently.
