INSIDE A RACE CAR |
|
The Driver's Seat The top two gauges are water and oil. The bottom two gauges are oil and fuel. The big gauge is the RPMs (race cars don't register MPH). The gauge on the right is volts. Next to volts are switches for fans and of course, turning the car on. |
The Passenger's Side Exhaust tubes, wires and the rear view mirror. That little silver ball at the bottom right is the gear shift. |
SPOTTERS
The Spotters' Stand Here's the spotters' stand from beautiful Darlington raceway in South Carolina. In Motor Mouth Alex Barnaby is working as Sam Hooker's spotter. |
|
The Actual Stand Every track is a little different, but in Darlington the spotters have bleachers that get them above the television cameras. |

BACK AT THE NEW HAMPSHIRE INTERNATIONAL SPEEDWAY |
|
The Back Stretch One of our favorite things about the Speedway in NH, the back stretch. People can park their campers and watch from the hill. |
Pit Row Someone was sent home early, so we had a chance to watch the race from their empty pit. |
The Winning Team Kyle Busch won the race. This is the #5 Kellogs team waiting on the wall for the car to come around and do it's burnout. |
The Winning car The number 5 car doing it's victory burnout. |
AFTER THE RACE
If you didn't finish in the top five, or weren't one of the "chosen" ones, you're free to pack up and go. In the upper left corner that's Jimmie Johnson getting interviewed by TNT and other reporters. |
|
The Tear Down The team tearing the engine apart in front of NASCAR officials. NASCAR wants to make sure everything is legal. |
Putting the Car Away After the car has been torn apart, it's pushed to the hauler and loaded onto the truck. Two cars ride on the top. |
Putting the Junk Away Tool chests, generators and such are stored in the center of the hauler. |
On To the Next Race When everything is put away, and strapped down, the haulers head out. They will take the beat up car back to the shop. |
